Glossary-M

M/W

Measure/weight was created as a conversion factor for LCL sub-loads in order to bridge the difference between volume (measure) and weight. After all, 1 cubic metre of lead will weigh more than 1 cubic metre of feathers. So as to be able to charge this difference equally, a conversion factor was called into life. Therefore, 1 seaborne freight LCL is set equal to 1,000 kg.

Merchant’s haulage

Merchant’s haulage is when the preliminary and subsequent transport is carried out by the shipper and/or the receiver of a container.
